From August 7th until August 14th a group of 22 students and nine team members enjoyed a week together. It was the first English Camp in CVJM Berlin's history.
During the morning hours four groups met in small groups to work through new vocabulary, grammar and to practice conversational English. After lunch and leisure time several workshops took place: basketball, baking, making jewellery, composing a song etc.
High light of the week was a hike around the lake. We spent the night outside with our sleeping backs, directly at the beach. There were plenty of opportunities to practice English and most students took advantage of it.
The entire camp was amazing: after a few days a group of strangers became a good group that enjoyed playing games together, singing, and talking about faith and other relevant topics. Most will remember the group time, were boys talked among themselves about the role of boys and men. The girls used their time to explore the role of a woman.
All differences among the group (age range 13 through 20; believers and non-believers; campers and first-time-campers) did not matter when we met in the evenings for a time of reflecting on important topics, singing and praying. Several understood with their heart what it means to live with God in their hearts.
All thanks belongs to each one in the group for great participation and open-mindedness. Thank you to all English teachers who made this camp possible. There will be a second camp in summer 2011. We are all looking forward to see you again.
